Former Public Service Cabinet Secretary Justin Muturi strongly criticised President William Ruto during an interview on Nation TV’s Fixing the Nation show on Friday morning, April 4.
Muturi, who used to be a close supporter of the president, stated that Ruto is “unfit to be the president of Kenya.”
He accused Ruto of being “irredeemably corrupt” and described him as a “dangerous character” who should not be leading the country.
“William Ruto is unfit to be the president of Kenya. He is irredeemably corrupt and a dangerous character,” Muturi said.
” I think William Ruto is a person with two personalities. The William Ruto that presents himself to the public is a completely different character from the one who sits behind in the office and crafts stuff. That’s a dangerous character,” he added.
During the show, which was hosted by Janet Mbugua and Mariam Bishar, Muturi expressed his concerns, saying that the person Ruto shows to the public is very different from the person who makes decisions in his office.
Muturi pointed out that there is a gap between Ruto’s public image and his actual behaviour as president.
These comments came just a few days after Muturi was removed from his Cabinet position on March 26 and replaced by Mbeere North MP Geoffrey Ruku. His removal followed a period of disagreement with Ruto, which began when Muturi openly criticised the government’s handling of serious issues like abductions and extrajudicial killings.
Muturi believes that Ruto is trying to divert attention from these major problems by questioning his abilities.
Muturi, who was previously the Attorney-General before working in public service, argued that Ruto’s recent claims of incompetence are a way to distract people from these serious issues.
In the interview, Muturi also shared that he tried to help Ruto improve his relationship with former President Uhuru Kenyatta.
He recalled that when their relationship began to break down, Ruto would call him to ask what was going wrong. In January 2020, Muturi even sought help from religious leaders to bring both men together.
Muturi’s strong comments have sparked a lot of reactions across Kenya, especially in the Mt Kenya region, where he is still a respected figure.
His fallout with Ruto has raised questions about problems within the Kenya Kwanza administration, especially as the president faces growing dissatisfaction from the public over promises that have not been kept and concerns about human rights.
Many people following the broadcast shared their thoughts online. Some praised Muturi for his brave stance as a former insider, while others questioned his credibility because he has been part of Ruto’s government for a long time.
