Rogue Housing Agent Exposed For Withholding Tenants Deposits

A recent complaint has surfaced involving Ivory Homes Care Limited, a property management agency allegedly engaging in questionable practices concerning deposit refunds. The same behaviour is portrayed by Olive Joy Care agents.

According to a former tenant, the agency failed to honour the agreed terms for returning their deposit after vacating an apartment in Kwa Kairo, Exodus.

The tenant, who followed all stipulated requirements, including paying rent on time and vacating before the month’s end, stated that they were informed his deposit would be refunded after 15 days but upon making inquiries, he was told some of it had been deducted for repainting the one-bedroom apartment.

The tenant found the figure unjustifiable, given they had only resided there for four months.

His experience appears to mirror a broader pattern, as reviews from other former tenants paint a similar picture of alleged exploitation by the agency.

Numerous complaints detail poor customer service, unreasonably high deductions for minor repairs and even outright refusal to refund deposits.

The agency, which operates from Pioneer House along Kenyatta Avenue in Kilifi, has garnered overwhelmingly negative feedback online, with multiple tenants warning others to avoid their services.

According to sources, he revealed, “I would like to let my fellow Kenyans be aware and avoid buildings that are managed by agents at all costs. There is this particular agency known as IVORY HOMES CARE LIMITED.

” I was living in one of their apartments in Kwa Kairo, Exodus. These guys told me to wait until after 15 days to claim my deposit. I did that, and I was even told if I would be vacating, I should vacate before the month ends, which was last year, December.

“I followed everything I was told by them, including paying my rent on time and all. Tell me why I am calling these guys after 15 days, asking them for my deposit, which should be around 11k, then wanadai ati wananikata 9k ya rangi… surely???

“Rangi gani inacost hiyo pesa yote na hata kama? Kwani wanadai kupaint the whole building? Mark you, it was only a 1-bedroom house, and I was there barely 4 months. I decided to do some research on them and saw reviews of other previous tenants complaining of the same.

“My question is, why do they demand for a deposit if they know, at the end of it all, they are not planning to pay it back? Si huo ni uwizi jamani.”

It was also revealed after getting sources from different firms that most companies in the sector do the same only that tenants have nowhere to report it.
