Gachagua Claims Plot to Oust CJ Koome, Dissolve Supreme Court

Rigathi Gachagua, the former Deputy President of Kenya, recently said that there is a plan by the government to remove Chief Justice Martha Koome from her position and weaken the Supreme Court before the 2027 elections.

Gachagua made these claims during a church service in Meru. He suggested that this plan involves using unknown people to help, and that money has been set aside by the National Intelligence Service (NIS) to disturb the judiciary.

He pointed out that the recent changes in Koome’s security, where her bodyguards were first taken away and then given back, are part of this plan to scare her into resigning.

Gachagua believes the main goal is to create a Supreme Court that will support the government, warning that the current administration under President William Ruto may try to control the judiciary.

He called for international attention and urged Koome not to give in to threats, emphasizing her important role in maintaining the rule of law.

These claims have generated a lot of discussion, with many posts on social media sharing Gachagua’s accusations and questioning why such actions would be happening if they are true.

However, without more evidence, these remain just claims. The conversations on social media and news articles show a mix of support for Gachagua’s warnings and doubt about whether his claims are true. Some people see it as a way for him to gain public sympathy or attention.

This situation highlights ongoing struggles between different parts of the government in Kenya and raises concerns about the independence of the judiciary and the balance of power.
