The decentralised worldwide hacktivist and activist collective Anonymous has entered the heated Kenyan Occupy Parliament debate by issuing a firm and unquestionable warning to Kenya's Parliament and President on the controversial Finance Bill, 2024.

With over 5 million followers on its X account, Anonymous released a one-minute, seventeen-second video in which they passionately warned the ruling class of what would happen if the suffering of Kenyans went unaddressed.

Anonymous's tone was clear and concise; they addressed the President by name and ended with a "Swahili" salute, perhaps to close the conversation and remove any room for doubt.

"Greetings, citizens of the world," they said to start their message. Anonymous has issued a warning to William Ruto, the Kenyan administration, and all members of parliament. "We have learned that parliament is discussing the Finance Bill, which would unjustly tax Kenyan residents."

"The police force under your command is unfairly harassing, arresting, and shooting at Kenyan citizens attempting peaceful demonstrations with live bullets."

They continued by disclosing that they were aware that lawmakers' phone numbers were making the rounds on the internet, adding to the alertness about possible cyberattacks by hackers, some of whom may be based in Kenya.

The number of hackers will rise, and many may live in your country. They stated, "Your secrets might not be safe anymore, and there's a chance all these secrets will come to light to demonstrate how dishonest and unfair members of this parliament are embezzling public funds for their own personal gain."

The gang proceeded to warn that if Kenyan legislators did not listen to the screams of the people, resistance would occur, with possibly fatal effects. This proved that they were monitoring the demonstrations and controlling the situation.

Kenyans began  to march and participate in the #OccupyParliament on Thursday, June 20th.

"Listen to your citizens' cries; otherwise, people all over the world will resist you every step of the way."

Anonymous is well-known around the world for its extensive cyberattacks on governments and organisations. They've been involved in many high-profile strikes in the past, and they claim corruption and unfairness.

Their notable accomplishments include breaking into the websites of powerful companies like Sony and PayPal, as well as governmental organizations like the Church of Scientology and the CIA.

They were also heavily involved in the historic Arab Swing uprisings, which shook the Arab world and overthrew a number of Arab leaders, including those in Tunisia and Egypt.

Even though Anonymous has been active in a number of high-stakes international disputes, striking many elite countries and severely harming presidents and autocrats, this is the group's first effort to meddle in Kenyan political matters.

Members, also known as anons, often don Guy Fawkes masks in order to be anonymous. Some additionally make use of text-to-speech apps or voice changers.

Kenyans across the country will once again take to the streets on Thursday, June 20, to express their views on the controversial Finance Bill, 2024. All major cities, including Mombasa, Kisumu, and Nairobi, Eldoret have began their protests.
