President Ruto speech in statehouse

'Maendeleo gani?' - MPs mummer, laugh after journalist asks Ruto about development after budget cuts.

During President William Ruto's press briefing at the statehouse, a section of Kenya Kwanza legislators accused the Finance Bill 2024 protests of being the main cause of the inadequate finances.

The National Assembly's majority leader, Kimani Ichungwa, led the MPs in declaring that no changes will occur until Kenyans approve of higher taxes.

"Where will the development funds come from? We wanted to get Sh310 billion this year. However, due to the president's directive to remove specific clauses from the bill, we will instead be adopting the previous year's act, he stated.

After President Ruto's speech at the statehouse, netizens reacted, saying, "

The murmurs by those MPs show how they disregard the interests of their electorate. They need to be tamed. That is how they view Kenyans. A recall is necessary.

So it was only the additional 436 shillings that were supposed to be used for development? Out of the Sh4 trillion budget? These MPs are so arrogant.

"The last budget had a deficit of Sh 200 billion. Therefore, the government plans to reduce expenses and make necessary adjustments to the budget. Therefore, there will be no funding available for development projects. Recurrent expenditures and debts will consume the entire last year's budget, the majority leader added.
