President William Ruto pay services.

Over 1,000 PayBill lines that are used for gathering charges for services provided by the government must be closed down over the next 90 days, according to President William Ruto's directive.

President Ruto mentioned that in the near future Kenyans would only be able to pay for services provided by the government via the PayBill number, 222222, in remarks he made at the Kenyatta International Conference Centre (KICC) as he presented the State's new digital services.

President Ruto claims that, as things stand, the administration is unable to account for some PayBill numbers used by different government institutions.

"The state has its pay channel, 222222. For Treasury to see every government service that has been paid for, every source of government income will have to utilise the pay channel," he added.

"I will be announcing here that any additional pay bills are required to shut down within the next 90 days due to an issue with certain of the pay bills that we are unable to account for. Nearly 1,000 pay bills are in our possession, some of which we are unaware of. They have to be shut down now.

He continued by saying that the Treasury will transfer the funds to the appropriate ministries when payments are made through the channel.

"All government funds will be sent via 222222 to the Treasury, which will subsequently oversee the smooth operation of the whole ecosystem. The Treasury will make sure that the funds go to the appropriate ministries and agencies if money is intended for a certain ministry," according to Ruto.
